AN INVESTMENT IN KNOWLEDGE PAYS THE BEST INTEREST

HELLO READERS

Maturing means learning what life is about. Some things cannot be bought nor taught; they must be experienced. You can never learn the most valuable lessons until you have painstakingly mastered yourself and accepted who you are. We are all products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it. Some people spend their whole life stuck in the labyrinth of confusion contemplating how they might escape one day, and how wonderful life will be. They imagine that everything will be splendidly perfect whilst living in their illusionary world, but all they are really doing is trying to escape the present. Always running but never arriving. Wisdom is not the total product of an education, but of a lifelong attempt to acquire it. Those who don’t know history are doomed to continually repeat it because they are devoid of any useful knowledge and information. Any fool can learn, but the point is to understand and put that theoretical or practical understanding to good use.  To live with illiteracy is to remain in darkness because ignorance is not bliss, but a downright disadvantage in a constantly changing world and society.

The best remedy for boredom is to learn something new. It is the only thing that never fails, but so many people are lazy, lack motivation and simply can’t be bothered, and so they spend their entire lives living in a murky grey twilight zone, stuck and frustrated. Learning does not make someone a genius, but it does make a person interesting.  There are those who are intellectual and knowledgeable about certain topics, capable of deep understanding and insightfulness. Then there are those whose conversations and concerns are limited and lacklustre.

Never let a formal education prevent you from learning. Your very existence is the university of life. Acquiring knowledge and information replaces an empty mind with an open one. Memorisation can fill a mind with news content and data, but this in does not necessarily lead to wisdom or good judgment. There is a huge difference between memory and philosophy. Unless information is retained and there is good recall, it cannot be of any use because it is already forgotten.

Learning is a lifelong practice of keeping abreast of change, and the most pressing task is to teach others the importance of elevating their minds up to the next level of self-development. Alternatively, understanding requires philosophy, which is the disciplined exploration of meaning, values, principles, and other elements of an inquisitive mind. It involves questioning all our senses, not just dumb acceptance without questioning why and what? Comprehension demonstrates an ability to think critically, to synthesise ideas, and to understand the deeper significance behind what is learned. This indeed is the hallmark of someone truly ‘learned’.

From this day forward, improve your reading, writing and learning skills. Gradually evolve into an awakened, enlightened spiritual leader so that others will want to join you on your pilgrimage of higher education and learning. Let this new improved positive mental attitude keep you so occupied and engaged in subjects that absorb your interest and attention that you have no time to criticise nor associate with those who bring nothing of any value or importance to your day. Some people may not recall everything you have taught them but clearly remember what part you played in their lives.

You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, falling over and picking yourself back up again. Learning never exhausts the mind. True education and intellectual growth requires more than just absorbing facts and figures, it needs meditation, reflection, dialogue, and the cultivation of discernment. To transition from knowledge to understanding can be a difficult task, but not impossible. Like all healing and transitioning, it all takes time. It’s the difference between a library of books and a mind that knows how to read between the lines whilst absorbing the contents. One hour a day of studying in your chosen field of interest is all it takes to achieve excellence, and no one can take your education away from you. In the end spoon feeding teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon. Life must be experienced and the mind expanded.

Learning is a journey without a final destination. It is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. It is the passport to the future.
