Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be, and so you spent your while life trying to fit into something that was so wrong for you? Even then, it wasn’t enough. They wanted more until you were nearly at breaking point. Now you know the problem was with themselves, not you. Just look at them all now, what a pathetic mess. When you are content to be just yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you. When you accept yourself, you have no need for the acceptance of others. People pleasing always ends badly. From this day forward, never again.
What makes you stand out in a crowd, unique and beautifully different becomes your strength and trademark. There are a lot of people who would gladly exchange places with you because they are stuck in the mud, and you are free. It’s all about making the right choices for you, not for them. When you see groups of people congregating and clinging to one another, grasping and gasping, vying for attention, it should make you feel less inclined to join in. Large gatherings are no places for smart people, only for sheep.
The most courageous act of all is to think for yourself, refusing to be influenced by the high and mighty. Pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to their praise or blame because empty vessels make the most noise. Just stick to your principles and rest assured that if you remain true to them, those very same people who ridiculed you will eventually have to face the consequences of their mistakes.
It is better to be detested for what you are than to be admired for what you are not. No one ever made a difference by being liked by everyone else. In fact, their sycophants makes them look even more foolish. Always choose your company wisely.
Facing up to reality will help you to deal with the past and to heal again. You can live with regret, live in fear of tomorrow, but live peacefully today by being completely honest with yourself because there is nothing more powerful than the truth. Nothing constructive can be attained by avoidance and living a lie because those who do cannot be trusted. They often prove to be unstable and unreliable. The more we value things outside of our control, the less control we have over ourselves. If you are seemingly losing what is not meant to be, then let it go where it must.
Stand up for your beliefs and refuse to constantly settle for second best. Your life is exclusively yours, and only you can decide how far you are willing to go. You don’t need to be louder, just make yourself sound clearer. Not everyone will not understand your journey, but they don’t need to, it’s their path to walk. Don’t let others decide who you are because you are precisely who you believe yourself to be. Listen and learn, be observant, but never entrust your secrets nor make confessions because they will one day come back to haunt you. Those who obey others do not listen to themselves. Peace enters when you exit a toxic cycle. It was never about them changing, but about you doing the choosing. You are allowed to outgrow everything you once tolerated, and don’t even consider going back.
A dead thing can flow with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.
