A pessimist sees difficult in every opportunity but an optimist sees an opportunity in every difficulty because they know that even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
I am a born optimist and whether that comes from nature or nurture or just how the planets are positioned in my Horoscope, I cannot be sure, but one thing I do know is that nothing nor no situation will last forever and nothing remains the same. There is a beginning bit, middle bit and an ending to every situation and it is down to us, individually, to learn how to deal with obstacles tests and stresses that life can at times, unmercifully, throw at us. How many people do you know who enjoy nothing more than moaning, groaning and constantly complaining that their lot is a bad one? Their cups are always half empty, never half full, whereas mine is always ‘overflowing’ with good things, probably because I look for them and can see that they are real and very much there. Part of being an optimist is keeping one’s head pointed towards the sunshine allowing the shadows to be cast behind us and remaining resolute about continuously moving forwards and viewing situations as an opportunity rather than as a curse. The past is the past, we cannot change what has happened, we can only learn valuable lessons from our experiences and there is always a silver lining in every dark cloud. To be hopeful in bad times is not being foolishly romantic, it fact, it is absolutely necessary if you are to get through your darkest hours. To listen and take notice of people who enjoy nothing more than making deliberate, negative personal jibes at you as a destructive way of dragging you down to their level is crazy because someone else’s behaviour is not your problem, its theirs. When people are unhappy, miserable and have lots of issues because things are not going their way, they will stop at nothing to try to upset you or anyone else with by displaying negative bad behaviour. The only way to deal with this situation is to ignore them by shining even brighter than the brightest, most beautiful star in the sky. Never ever allow anyone to destroy you this way because if you do subscribe to their ‘suggestions’ it will prove destructive and will harm your capacity to deal with stuff as it comes along because your confidence will gradually be eroded to such an extent that you will be left feeling despaired and afraid. What we choose to think about and focus on will determine our future. Remember all the brave and courageous people who have survived great obstacles against all odds, where people have behaved magnificently in the face of adversity, because this gives us the energy to take personal responsibility of our lives and do something great for both ourselves and others. Be of good cheer because to think of today’s failures is non-productive. Instead, become excited about the possibilities and successes of tomorrow. If you expect the worst, the worst will happen to you. You are your own stress, your own anger, your own sadness and your own frustration. If you allow things to bother you, they will, so don’t let them. Nothing in life is easy so make the best of it all rather than waste precious time sitting there, dwelling on how things may have been, should have been but have not materialised the way in which you had planned. How do you know that you will not succeed fulfilling your tasks if you don’t persevere and try? Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year. We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. You’ll never find a rainbow if you are looking down on the ground. Some people grumble that roses have thorns, I am only grateful that thorns have roses.
Pessimism is seeing only the cloud, optimism is knowing that there is a sun shining behind it.
