Throughout history, our greatest leaders, orators, authors, songwriters, poets, philosophers and thinkers have used the power of words to influence our thinking, imagination, and ability to communicate. Words cannot only create emotions and paint pictures; they can also create actions that will determine our destiny. Words are sacred, and when used wisely and correctly, can instigate some very powerful and effective changes. They can touch the very depths of a person’s heart and soul.
The elements of speech and writing are perhaps the most powerful forces available because without communication and language, we are unable to communicate nor understand. We can choose to use these forces constructively or destructively depending upon our choices of expressions and intentions.
All speech and sign language has its own power. Words do not fade but can echo in our heart and mind forever. What starts out as an uttered sound can raise questions, alter moods, make, break and destroy. There exists, for everyone, a sentence or paragraph that has the power to disable you, yet on another occasion they can heal and rebuild your confidence. Once spoken, they cannot be retracted.
A person with a scant, vocabulary will almost certainly be a narrow thinker and weak narrator. They may even look to others to speak on their behalf, such is their inability to convey their message. The richer and more copious a person’s vocabulary, and the greater their awareness of the finer distinctions and subtle nuances of meanings, the more fertile and precise is the quality of their thinking and understanding.
The words we regret the most are the ones that come back to haunt us as a reminder of our past mistakes. Never apologise for anything that is not your fault. Words are pale shadows of forgotten names and places. They can light fires in the hearts and minds of those listening or reading them. Equally, they can wring tears from the hardest of souls reducing them into a babbling mess. The limitations of your vocabulary will strongly indicate where you stand in the world, and with whom. Ignorance is most common, but certainly not bliss.
Everyone affected by grief, illness, captivity and oppression needs to be heard. Out of suffering have emerged the strongest of characters, the deepest of thinkers and the most talented writers, musicians and artists. Their stories are covered in scars and tears, but without their experiences, they would not possess the capacity, tools nor imagination to share and captivate their amazing stories with their eager audiences. When you read their words, listen to their music and admire their artistry, you begin to realise that you are not alone because of the strong, spiritual and emotional connection you will share with them.
Always be mindful of the power of the written and spoken word. Once they have rooted in your psyche, it is not always possible to escape them. Words can shape the future of a person’s life or destroy their existence. They are powerful tools beyond measure, so choose wisely how you use them because once you have pronounced them, you cannot remove the scars they leave behind in their wake.
One lie has the power to tarnish a thousand truths, and a drop of ink can make millions think because the pen is always mightier than the sword. They all
have tremendous power and influence which is why so much blood, sweat and tears has been spilled over them. We live and breathe words and are masters of the unspoken ones, yet slaves of those we have allowed to betray us.
They can make people love you a little more, or a great deal less.
‘Words can be twisted into any shape.
Promises can be made to lull the heart and seduce the soul.
In the final analysis,
Everything around them
mean nothing.
The wisest man is the silent one. Examine his actions.
