You Are What You Eat

Hello Readers,

Ninety percent of the diseases known to man are caused by cheap food stuffs.

Many of us feel we are doing well if we manage to eat our recommended ‘five a day’, but a study has found that if we want to enjoy a longer and healthier life, eating seven or more daily portions of fruit and veg is the way to do it. Not only that, laziness and inactivity kills just as many people as does smoking, alcohol, drugs and eating junk food.

The famous saying ‘You are what you eat’, means, the notion to be fit and healthy, you need to eat good food. This phrase has come to us via quite a complicated route.
Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote in Physiologie du Gout ou Meditations de Gastronomie Transcentande 1826.

‘Dis moi ce que to manges, je te dirai ce qu tu es’ (Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are)

It states that the food one eats has a bearing on what one’s state of mind and health.

For me personally, 5 or 7 portions a day of fresh fruit and veg simply isn’t enough because I get through a lot more than that. Its no great hardship putting healthy options into one’s shopping trolley any more than it is choosing foods that are going to do me no good at all. Even The Lulas enjoy steamed veg added to their meals and love carrots, apples and strawberries as daily treats.

The Lulas and I enjoy at least 3 good walks per day and sessions on the field of throwing a ball and them both running faster than the speed of light, chasing it. I religiously swim for approximately 30minutes each morning because this is how I like to start my days, refreshed, full of beans and ready to go, despite having experienced difficulties in the past with breaks, sprains and a knee operation. I find there is nothing more invigorating than a good walk and fresh air. I have never been short of determination, effort and motivation, so its easy to enjoy such activities.

It doesn’t cost much to look and feel good. You just have to have the desire and willpower to change your lifestyle. Once you change how you look at your lifestyle then everything around you begins to change accordingly. Like always attracts like, so look forward to connecting with other like minded people who love and respect themselves, their friendships and value their lives.

One of the best and truest quotes I have read recently is one made by that fabulous actress Joan Collins, who is about to turn 81 years old soon. She said, ‘Eat junk and you will look like junk’.

Until Next Week,

Love and Light,

Linda and The Lulas xxx
