Why do we fall in love with people we can’t have? Knowing how bad something can be for us, offering no hope, only broken promises, shattered dreams and misery, and yet a form of insanity takes over and we still yearn for that which is not ours to have. We hunger in earnest for that which we cannot consume and for that very same thing that will bring us down to our knees.
While forbidden fruit is said to taste sweeter, it usually spoils faster and with every broken heart we learn about the dangers and high price of forbidden fruit. How true that love is blind and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is an inexplicable and dark ethereal charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable. If you notice, the prettiest things always seem farthest away, out of reach, difficult to touch and in the end will mysteriously disappear into oblivion.
Sometimes you are madly tormented by something you want but what you just cannot have. Maybe not now, that is, because everything takes place at the right time, but even that will not stop you from wanting it. Too often just the sheer desire leaves us heartbroken and worn out with exhaustion. It sometimes makes you wonder if it’s worth the hassle for all the trouble it causes, but still you pursue the illusion as you carry on living in a world of pure fantasy. Feelings of desire and in living in a lovesick state can wreck your life, and as tough as wanting something can be, the people who suffer the most are those lost in limbo, living a life of purgatory because they really don’t know what they want. Their minds change by the minute and nothing they say makes much sense.
There may be times when you envy what someone else has and want to live their life. Filling yourself with feelings of discontent and disharmonious thoughts won’t get you anywhere. Because you don’t have what someone has doesn’t mean that what you have isn’t beautiful. There are lots of people who would readily swap places with you, stepping straight into your world and never looking back, but maybe you just can’t see it. We never know the true value of anything until it’s gone and then we suddenly want it back, but often, by then, it’s too late, so always be careful for what you wish.
If you really believe that the grass is greener on the other side of someone else’s fence, that has a lot to do with your perspective and not necessarily the truth. Sometimes a neighbour, a friend’s life or another situation can seem dramatically better than yours, but you are only seeing a glimpse. It’s a case of wanting what you cannot have, and if you did have it, the chances are that in the end you wouldn’t want it.
Those people say they love you, then sudden hate you, envy your lifestyle and secretly resent you. They’ll either want to kill you, kiss you, or be you because they want your life. Anger, resentment and jealousy doesn’t change the heart of others, it only changes yours and manages to ruin your life. The grass is greener at other people’s feet because they lovingly watered and tended it, so why haven’t you lovingly nurtured yours enough? You need not to let your circumstances control your mind or darken your soul because you have what it takes to make your grass look green and beautiful.
