Nostalgia is a powerful emotion that often leads us down memory lane allowing us to relive moments from our past. Many people see their lives as set in stone and immovable. They both venerate and revile it as immutable, unchanging and unalterable, therefore imprisoning themselves in a past that no longer exists, only in their own minds. However, some of the wisest and smartest individuals choose to view their lives rather differently by accepting that important lessons must be learned to grow and evolve, but that there is also no turning back.
Our memories are always with us as they resonate and remain present all around us. Our past experiences have all contributed to making us who we are whilst continuing to shape and influence us until the end of our days. We become greater as time passes because certain aspects of our past will always stay with us, adding to the richness of our lives. What’s done is done and cannot be undone, nor even forgotten. We must always enthuse about moving forwards and not wasting precious time living a life of regret. Quiet moments of reflection and being alone with our thoughts is important, but time doesn’t stand still for any of us. Eventually we must return to the present moment. Everything is constantly changing, evolving, reaching its peak and later decaying and diminishing as the wheel of life keeps relentlessly turning.
If you insist on holding onto the past, you will slowly forget to live in the present and probably end up resentful and suspicious. You choose to spend the most time isolated from reality whilst immersed in your memories as life passes you by. Whether you are overly focused on past events or utterly consumed by the negative memories, the result is always the same, you will eventually become disconnected from your present and detached from some of the people you were once close to.
The past can always be annihilated. Regret, denial and forgetfulness offers temporary oblivion, but the future is inevitable because tomorrow is yet another day.
There are so many wonderful things and people waiting to greet you. A tough process is often necessary to reach your desired destination. Follow your dreams because they are the only place you can go to, everything else no longer exists, only in your mind, a place no one else can see nor share those exact same images with you. It has been, and now it is gone.
The past has a clarity where you can no longer see in the present.
