Our soul’s spiritual force propels us from the physical world into the beyond of eternal life. The path of spiritual awakening involves uncovering the values and ideas that are authentic to you regardless of what others may think. Unlike most things attached to the material world, the spiritual or intellectual awakening of a person is irreversible because you cannot unlearn what you have learned.
Over time, a spiritual awakening is realised throughout your heart, body, mind, and soul, but no sooner has that erupted than you are forced to see how limited you have been in so many other regards. That bright light shining deeply into the inner most depths of your soul will ask many questions of your intentions. It’s all too easy to try to ignore our illusions, pain, sorrow and misconceptions of what is important and what is not.
There is no set way of experiencing a spiritual awakening because it is different for everyone. Just know that beyond the separateness within you, everything else is about establishing a form of connectedness. Sometimes, a spiritual awakening is a profound moment of clarity about something or some aspect of oneself, or about another person. Sometimes it resembles a kind of final collapse where someone finally let’s go, allowing the truth to be revealed and much needed healing to take place. Your greatest awareness comes when you suddenly realise that life is not a rehearsal and that we only get one go at living before the flame of life extinguishes and eternal darkness descends. Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom, and when you discover who you are, you become free of all the shackles and chains that held you hostage to your own lack of faith and hope.
One day it just happens. After all those years of battling and fighting over things which now seem meaningless, you finally get to grips with who and what matters the most. We all make such mistakes and messes in this life, both accidentally and on purpose, but glossing over the surface doesn’t make anything better, it just masks the truth of what lies beneath. It’s only when you really dig down deeper, prepared to go underground into the labyrinth of your soul will you discover your true identity. Never allow yourself to be blinded by fear and anger because everything is as it is and each new experience presents an important learning process that is all part of your spiritual journey.
At the heart of your being lie all the answers to your questions and prayers. The only way to understand your path is by walking it yourself. No one else can do this for you because they have their own path to walk. Sometimes you have to slowly die a little in order to rise up again like a phoenix from your own ashes and start living again. It’s irrelevant how long you have lived on this earth, how much wealth you have accumulated or how much attention you have received because what is important is the amount of positive energy and vibrations you have radiated outwardly and how many lives you have lovingly touched. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of helping others and creating a life with a purpose.
When you make that soulful pilgrimage to a place which remains unchanged, you will soon discover all the ways in which you have grown, evolved and strengthened. The greatest challenge is discovering who you are, and the second is feeling happy with who you are.
Darkness is always trying to overcome the light and what we know from Advent and the resurrection is that darkness cannot overcome the light. Know that love and truth can carry you into heavenly bliss and hope all the days of your life. The only journey is the one within.

Advent Prayer
‘In our secret yearnings
we wait for your coming,
and in our grinding despair
we doubt that you will.
And in this privileged place
we are surrounded by witnesses who yearn more than do we
and by those who despair more deeply than do we.
Look upon your church and its pastors
in this season of hope
which runs so quickly to fatigue
and in this season of yearning
which becomes so easily quarrelsome.
Give us the grace and the impatience
to wait for your coming to the bottom of our toes,
to the edges of our fingertips.
We do not want our several worlds to end.
Come in your power
and come in your weakness
in any case
and make all things new’.
