In order to grow and avoid stagnation we must be open to new ideas, new ways of doing things and new ways of thinking. The measure of intelligence is the ability to change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. Your mind is like a parachute, if it isn’t open it doesn’t work. It is a very narrow mind which refuses to look at a subject from another perspective. The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas but in escaping from old ones. People who dislike and fight against change often expect others to do the same and are often critical of those who possess a pioneering spirit. They are also unable to or resistant to new ideas or finding alternatives routes around problems because they are too fearful of stepping out of their comfort zone and so they never give themselves the chance to discover their true potential. They are born sheep, not shepherds.
There is a lot of power in learning to be receptive and open to new ideas and you can make so much progress by adopting a brand new perspective of how you view the next most important chapter of your life. If you feel the need to venture into something new or completely different, what better time than now to get started? After all, what do you have to lose other than an opportunity to be successful.
Whilst it often may seem like a ‘dog eat dog’ society that we live in, it is most important to learn to be self supporting and independent, especially financially. There is nothing more debilitating or weakening than relying on someone else to pay for your dinner and feeling beholden to them. Its time to take pride in yourself and work on becoming your own person in every sense of the word. We live in a tough and challenging world, but by now, you have learned much from both your own and other people’s experiences to be a survivor. Perform your daily duties as best you can, but don’t get stuck in a rut. The secret of success is to be ready to take a calculated risk at the right time and not a moment before. Have faith in your abilities to achieve anything you really want and follow your dream no matter what. Never be deterred by the negativity of others.
Ignorance is our worst enemy and a person with a fixed idea will always find some way of convincing themselves in the end that they are always right. The people who think they know everything have the most to learn. A mind that opens to new ideas is always the most exciting.
